Chevening programme

The British Embassy will offer Chevening Scholarships for the academic year 2009/10 and 2010/11 exclusively to diplomats who work at the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  We will fund postgraduate studies at the Oxford University Foreign Service Programme.  This course lasts one academic year from October to June.  It is aimed at early to mid career diplomats.

If you are interested in this scholarship, please visit the "Oxford University Foreign Service Programme". Interested candidates must also have the profile of a Chevening scholar.

Please note that the Chevening Programme in Uruguay does not fund MBAs or PhDs.

Chevening is the scholarship and fellowship programme funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).  Since the programme was established in 1983, it has provided over 32,000 scholarships and fellowships to students around the world allowing them to study at prestigious universities in the UK.

The Chevening programme is made up of two distinct schemes:

  • scholarship scheme
  • fellowship scheme
The fellowship scheme offers awards for study on 12-week courses that focus on particular subjects aligned to the FCO's strategic framework.  Fellowships are aimed at mid-career professionals with several years' experience, who are in positions of leadership and influence (or in line for such positions), and who are active in the field of the fellowship subject.

The scholarship scheme is different: it aims to attract and select candidates from around the world with the greatest potential to be future leaders. Successful candidates are offered postgraduate courses, generally of 12 months' duration at universities in the United Kingdom.
